DIGITAL PC AND TABLET PC TECHNOLOGIES
Abstract
Business and many other applications still relies heavily on technology because some users are uneasy about making a full switch to the electronic world because it is simply too costly to equip a large team of field workers with individual computing device.
Digital Pen Technology
The concept of digital pen is, data will be written on paper form using a digital pen and then the data is transferred electronically via mobile phone (or a pc) handset to an internet server and will be received either as an e-mail attachment or directly will be attached into the office systems and will be further processed.
It is a old fashion, writing with a pen and a paper. Digital pen technology was actually developed to replace pen and paper and read pen strokes on special digital paper. The application service handlers (ASH) will process the pen data and generate graphical e-mails or will pass on the data to the databases.
The following is the Anoto development history:
1995- Christer Fahraem developed the idea for a pen like tool.
1997-Prototype of C-pen was developed
1998-Prototype of C-pen was tested and launched successfully in the Swedish market.
2000-Anoto started working with colleagues and developed a platform for a Defacto standard enabling paper based digital communication. Third generation of C-pen was launched with the C-pen 800 BT
2002- Sony Ericsson introduced the first digital pen for mobile phone, Chapten, in Sweden and in Denmark, Italy and the UK.
2003-Nokia launched Nokia digital pen, a pen enabling Anoto functionality.

Overview of the Digital Pen Solution

digital pen looks like a normal pen, which captures all the written information via inbuilt camera and then transmits information with the help of Bluetooth to mobile phone usage is simple, switch phone on and check the coverage area also at the same time remove the cap of the digital pen to switch on and select the required operation. It takes typically 20 seconds to complete the whole operation. Digital pen is provided with Red, Yellow, and green lights for the feedback. [1].

Digital pens support customized solutions and can be connected to back end systems using a PC or a mobile phone. The following are the types of digital pens available in the market:
A) Logitech IO Pen:
This pen enables the user to share, store and organize the handwritten information and writing with ink can do this. The feature of this pen is that it offers the mobility.
B) Maxell Digital Pen:
It is a high technology interface, in which the analog handwritten data is converted into digital data and this data is used for various applications.
C) Nokia Digital Pen SU-13:
This pen provides facilitates the user to develop colorful images and messages and then send these to the compatible phone with the existing Bluetooth technology. [2]
Tablet PC Technology
Tablet Pc is a functioning system, which runs the windows XP professional operating system, the tablet PC edition and has enhanced functionality and do not require any translations as required to run some PDA’S.
The following are the features of Tablet PC that put par with relatively powerful laptops:
A pen operated device, which has a digitizing screen and special pen with no hassle of a mouse.
Used in Landscape and portrait devices.
Tablet PC’s have inbuilt wireless network connectivity.
Handwriting Recognition
Digital Ink allows handwritten notes and drawing into office 2002 applications.
Substitute for a interactive whiteboard and can be easily transported.
To project correctly, the tablet must be placed, in landscape mode instead of portrait mode and this is the only demerit. [3]
Tablet Pc has the size of a notepad and pen activated screen, which provides the ease of carrying and can be used in meetings. Tablet Pc is actually culmination of advancers in shrinking hardware and improvements in integrated digitizers as a way of input to enable pen activated screens. The types of digitizers used are active, passive, and hybrid digitizer
The tablet pc is available in three basics styles or forms:
1. Convertibles 2.Slates and 3. Hybrid.
This differs in size and speed and depends on the choice of user in accordance to their needs. Leading manufacturers of Tablet Pc are Hewlett Packard, Fujitsu, Toshiba, and Acer and these run on Microsoft tablet pc edition and applications with windows XP work on tablet PC.
The three forms of Tablet PC’s:
A) Convertibles:
It has an attached keyboard to the base and looks like a conventional laptop and little bit heavier. Screen can be rotated by 180 degree with rotating hinge provided which facilitates comfortable reading and these are the most popularly used.
